We are so excited to announce that we will be hosting an Alvina Valenta trunk show August 27-29. We love the gowns so much that we will be opening on that Sunday to be able to accomodate more brides.

Jessica Williams, the designer, will be in the store Saturday and Sunday to work with brides one on one. She will be bringing the past two full collections as well as past best sellers. We are thrilled to offer the opportunity for brides to meet the face behind the fabulous gowns.

We are thrilled to be hosting our first ever Cheryl King Couture trunk show next Sunday, August 8. Cheryl herself will be on site to dress brides head to toe with the perfect accessories. Cheryl will be bringing her Couture collection featuring beautiful handmade headpieces, hairpins and veils. She will also have her full collection of Icing Couture which showcases beautiful jewelry for the entire bridal party. We are so thrilled to announce that we recently added Enchanted Atelier to our collection of designers. Enchanted Atelier offers couture accessories for the bride. Each piece can be customized based on the bride's individual style. Enchanted Atelier's designs feature fresh water pearls, cultured pearls, Swarovski crystal, silk and satin ribbons, sterling silver and gold plated filigree. Designer, Liv Hart, strives to create accessories to complete the look of each individual bride without losing their sense of style.

Debutante season is just around the corner! Whether you're a deb making your first debut or are looking to spice up a gown that's been worn before, J. Major's is your one-stop shop. We have a great selection of debutante gowns, mother's gowns, special occasion dresses, gloves, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories!

J. Major's makes your debutante shopping easy and hassle-free by providing the same top-notch customer service for which we've become known with our brides. We offer appointments with a private dressing room and the attention of an experienced consultant. Your consultant will ask some questions regarding the regulations of your particular deb society and assist you in choosing gowns and accessories that are in keeping with the rules.

Please keep in mind that most of our gowns are ordered (as opposed to sold off the rack), and require anywhere from two to six months for production. Although rush orders can usually be accommodated, don't get caught paying more than you must for your gown. Our advice? Get started early. Because most deb societies require participants to register their choice of gown to avoid duplication of styles, shopping early can ensure you have the best selection and aren't left settling for your second favorite! We also keep internal records of registered gowns to make your shopping easier.

We recently picked up a new accessory designer, Paris by Debra Moreland. Debra Moreland designs unique one of a kind pieces that can complete any look. She offers a wide variety of designs among her various collections. We are very excited to announce our Paris trunk show, May 21 & 22. A Paris rep will be in the store during the trunk show to help you dress head to toe with the perfect accessories for your big day!

This is a snapshot of my favorite Paris head piece. Her jewels are exquisite! We've received several head combs, headbands, cuffs, and earrings from Paris. We are so thrilled to offer this line to our brides. It is definitely sure to please!

Here's a sneak peak of a few pieces from the Nicole Miller Jewelry line. We've received several necklaces, earrings and bracelets from this new line. We are excited to offer these pieces to our brides and mothers-of. LOVE LOVE the one of the left! It is so beautiful in person. We paired it with one of Nicole Miller's special occasion gowns the other day for a mother. It was stunning!

Our boutique was chosen by Alvina Valenta to house 15 samples for the next month. We are so excited to be able to offer such a large selection of Alvina gowns to our brides. We've had a full schedule of trunk shows over the past few months. This past weekend we hosted a joint Melissa Sweet and Priscilla of Boston trunk show. The gowns were stunning, the brides were awesome and we are so excited for those brides who found their dream gown during the trunk show!

Now that trunk show season is winding down (only 2 left!) we are looking to what's next. In October top designers will showcase their 2010 collections. We are so excited to see what's next for bridal. It's always exciting to see the new trends and styles for the new year.

Alvina Valenta has a new designer joining their team this season, Jessica Williams. Alvina Valenta is a strong bridal collection with a history of presenting timeless beauties to the bridal world. Lea-Ann Belter was kind enough to offer a sneak peak of her newest collection. Lea-Ann Belter is know for her classic silhouettes, beautiful lace details and couture fits. We will be hosting a trunk show for Lea-Ann Belter November 6-7. While these newest gowns will not be available until next spring, we will be showcasing gowns from past collections during the trunk show. For those who are a fan of the Time Traveler's Wife.. Lea-Ann designed the gown worn by Rachel McAdams in the film. This gown will be available for try on during the trunk show!

We are currently testing out a new designer. Kiribilla is a Califorinia based designer who creates "classically feminine dresses with a touch of flair." The dresses can be used as bridesmaid dresses, a cute luncheon dress or for your rehearsal. We have a few of the dresses her to sample in our store. Prices seem to range from about $350-$420. The Little White Dress

Here's a peek at one of J. Major's bride Elizabeth's formal portraits. The former Miss Postma chose a gorgeous Priscilla of Boston ballgown and paired it with a cathedral-length lace edged veil from Cheryl King Couture.

North Carolina couple El Lana, 29, and Torrino, 35, have been dating for ten years, but resistance to their interracial relationship has brought their fun loving partnership to a standstill.

When Torrino's best friend presents the couple with a surprise invitation to their own wedding, El Lana, a waitress, struggles to convince Torrino’s family that she is a capable bride, while Torrino, a retail salesman, has a hard time choosing between his family and the woman he loves.

Priscilla of Boston has been a force in the industry since 1945, designing for daughters of presidents (Johnson and Nixon), royalty (Grace Kelly), and millions of brides around the world. We recently got a first-hand look at a great vintage Priscilla gown and just had to share!

How cool is this? Working together with Shea Nichole Designs, we're creating a custom sash and veil for one of our brides due to be married in October. She and her mom brought Mom's wedding gown in and we just couldn't believe it when we saw the original shipping box in which the gown was still stored. Check out the pictures, showing Mom's gown with the box, as well as some of our modern Priscilla designs and a new shipping box. Priscilla of Boston still operates from the same address in Charlestown, Massachusetts!

We're Expanding!

We are so excited to announce that J. Major's is gaining some much needed space. We are in the process of up-fitting an additional 1300 square feet from the vacant space right next door to our existing boutique. By July, this new space will be home to our bridesmaid, mother, and flower girl collections. Our current space will remain unchanged, with the exception of an archway opening to our expansin, and more room for our brides to enjoy choosing the dress of their dreams! Follow with us over the next few weeks as the existing space is transformed into a fabulous boutique!

Kari Bonebrake and Cole Kessell were married at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden on May 23. Anna was honored to attend, but regrettably, forgot her camera! The wedding gown process is a long and joyful journey. We have the pleasure of meeting brides when they first get engaged and are looking for their dream gown, and we get to see them all the way to the end. We getting to know our brides on a personal level, and it is always an honor when we get invited to attend the wedding of one of our brides.

This past weekend, we made a trip down to Charleston, South Caroline for the wedding of Meredith and Dmitri. Meredith and Dmitri got married at the beautiful Lowndes Grove Plantation. Meredith wore a stunning gown by Romona Keveza. She had a custom sash made by SheaNichole Designs (www.sheanicholedesigns.com) to complete the look. Meredith mother wore a dupioni silk gown by Watters & Watters. We were able to customize the gown to fit her vision for the day. Here are some pictures from Meredith and Dmitri's wedding:

These pictures were too amazing to not share. Emily got married May 2, 2009 in a gorgeous linen Priscilla of Boston gown. When Emily brought her gown in to be preserved she shared her bridal portraits with us. When we saw these pictures our mouths dropped to the floor. Emily looks like a supermodel!!! Finding the Perfect Wedding Gown

It's really important to find the perfect gown for your big day. It takes some girls 5 minutes to choose a gown and others months. While recently reading through an issue of Carolina Bride Magazine, I came across some great tips for a bride's search for the perfect gown.

Here they are:

- Don't shop yourself into confusion. While you will want to try on several different styles of dresses, don't try on every gown in town. If you try on a dress and you think it's beautiful, then buy it.

- Consider shopping on your own -- at least initially. Later, you can show your mom or best friend your two favorite dresses and see what they think.

- Wear the proper undergarments and shoes when trying on gowns.

- Ask if your dress can be customized. For instance, some dresses can be ordered with a different sleeve or train.

- Expect alterations. They are almost always necessary and there is usually an additional charge.

- Consider your budget. Wedding dresses in the greater Charlotte area vary from several hundred dollars to several thousand. The fabric, ornamentation and designer all affect the price. Ask your bridal consultant about samples and discontinued styles. They can be wonderful bargains for a fraction of the cost.

- Remember, you alone will wear this dress. You have to look good in it and have confidence that you look good in it.

- Finally, be happy with your selection. When you find "the" gown, you'll know it -- don't settle for less. And whatever your dream dress might be, you can be sure it will be ready and waiting just for you.

Renella De Fina Was Here!

This past weekend we were privilege to have a famous Canadian designer, Renella De Fina at our boutique for a trunk show featuring her gowns. Renella spent time with numerous brides to discuss silhouette, fabric and styles to help find a look that was unique to each of them. One bride even designed a new couture gown with Renella for her fall wedding and we are so excited to see the final product!!

For those who were not able to attend Hayden Olivia's fashion show, it was great. Ivy Robinson, ( who is an awesome event planner ) created a swanky fashion show for Hayden Olivia's Dress for Success. With martini's flowing and cupcakes ( by Polka Dot ) being passed around you couldn't help but get into the whole Sex and The City moment, which was the theme for the evening. The infamous Vivian Westwood wedding gown which was wore by "Carrie" in the movie was featured as the finale dress.

We loved supporting this cause and had a great time doing it. What a wonderful combination...... great cause, good drinks, lots of laughs and awesome company!
